Remote Desktop Offline Files

Hi spiceheads,so we have a functioning folder redirection setup going on, but I want to include offline files for the obvious reasons - if server goes offline, switch explodes or a user kicks a network cable off the wall jack that their desktop, docs, downloads & favs wont go offline. OK so the policy settings I pasted above make no difference and I think the offline files is actually working as expected.@didyoureboot, thanks for clarifying of not expecting something locally, I thought that's how it would work - having a local copy in the original location in case the network goes offline. Now this is what I am experiencing with offline files, I am not sure if this is how it's supposed to work since it's my first time messing with offline files. When I disconnect the network cable the desktop files disappear. Then within 18-20 seconds the files reappear again and able to continue either creating new desktop items or editing what's already there. Network cable is connected and I see that new items are added to the network share of the desktop folder.18-20 seconds is definitely better than 'hey we're down and sit tightly while we fix the problem with an ETA of???'

, but in my naivete I was expecting instant offline fail over, no delay, no files disappearing. So again, if this is how it's expected to work I suppose I am golden.Thanks!edit- I currently have the local desktop folder because I didnt select to not move the contents of the desktop to the new location. My other active GPO does have this and it moves the folders out of the c:usersusername and places it on the folderredirection share. Windows 7, for whatever reason, when it comes to folder redirection and offline files, has been buggy and inconsistent.at least with my experience. I've encountered multiple situations where a folder that configured for offline sync, either didn't update to show what was actually there, or nothing at all. A quick fix that I've found is disabling and re-enabling offline files from the control panel. Requires a reboot, but it seems to re-establish the sync between client and server.

In your case, maybe check the sync status. Its sometimes useful in telling you where there are errors. I could be wrong but in my experience it doesn't work that way, you either map the user's desktop to the local C: drive or you use folder redirection to map them instead to a network share. I've read some articles about Win7 being difficult and then others stating that it works.so possibly is just a network environment/setup situation.I've done some additional changes and not sure if what I am expecting from offline files is correct.should the offline files stay local in the same DESKTOP folder?

Remote Desktop Offline Files

If folder redirection worked correctly you shouldn't have both a local Desktop folder and a Network one. Your desktop folder should map to your network share (sharetestuserdesktop) and if you browse to C:userstestuser you should NOT see a desktop folder there because it has been redirected to the new location.

When the PC goes offline you still can access that desktop folder and when it regains connection any changes you made while offline should sync up to the network.Open up your file explorer, you should see your desktop listed on the left hand side at the top under Favorites, right click that folder and go to Properties.what does it show for a location in the Target box? What does gpresult show for success or failures?I've never used folder redirection with the 'move the contents of Desktop to the new location' unchecked, I'm not quite sure why you would want to do that.
